So Schottenheimer travels to a Bronco practice and asks Shanahan, "Coach, why is your team so good? What's your secret?"
Shanahan responds by calling John Elway over. "John, who's your father's brother's nephew?"
Elway responds, "Why Coach that's easy, it's me." Shanahan turns to Schottenheimer and says, "That's the secret Marty, a smart quarterback. You have to have a smart quarterback."
Thinking he has all the tools he needs, Schottenheimer returns to Kansas City and the Chiefs workout. He promptly calls over Elvis Grbac. "Grbac, who's your father's brother's nephew?"
Elvis looks perplexed, thinks a minute, then asks, "Coach, can I get back to you on that?"
Schottenheimer, clearly disgusted says, "OK."
During practice, Grbac calls over Andre Rison. "Andre, Coach just asked me the weirdest question: Who's your father's brother's nephew?" Rison replies, "Duh! That's easy, it's me!" After practice, Grbac catches up with Schottenheimer. "Coach, I think I've got it. My father's brother's nephew is Andre Rison."
Schottenheimer screams "NO! NO! NO! You dumb ass!! It's John Elway!!"
